Party walls are those which are shared between two adjoining buildings, typically semi-detached houses or in a longer terrace of homes, or shops on a high street.
A Party Wall Award (sometimes called a Party Wall Agreement) is the conclusion of the Party Wall Surveying process and, once agreed and formally served, it means that the building owner is free to commence their proposed construction work, subject to keeping to the requirements set out in the Award.
The Award needs to specify in detail aspects such as the work being done, construction methods, timescale and the process for making good any damage and resolving disputes. Typically they will address issues such as access, underpinning and the use of particular tools.

A Party Wall Award means that both owners are fully and legally protected.
